Origin

· body of pubis

· angle between pubic crest and symphsis

Path

· starts as round tendon

· quickly becomes muscular

· separates femoral a and profunda femoris

· lower 2/3 of linea aspera

Adductor brevis

Origin

· body and inferior ramus of pubis

Path

· separates anterior and posterior divisions of obturator n

Insertion

· linea aspera

· lateral to pectineus

· fusion of hamstring and adductor

Origin

· hamstring

· lateral part of inferior rough part of ischial tuberosity

· (medial part receives sacrotuberous ligament)

· femoral vessels exit adductor canal between adductor and hamstring parts

· most posterior fibres (hamstring) pass vertically

· more anterior fibres inserted progressively higher

· most anterior fibres (adductor) pass horizontally

Origin

· obturator membrane

Path

· passes laterally and posteriorly under neck of femur

· capsule of hip joint extends as far as where tendon in contact with neck

Insertion

· medial surface of greater trochanter

· into trochanteric fossa

Obturator artery

· obturator membrane and muscle do not completely fill obturator foramen

· do not occlude obturator sulcus superiorly

· obturator artery passes out notch above membrane

· with nerve

· divides into medial and lateral branches

· encircle origins of obturator externus

· anastomose with MCFA

· twig from lateral branch runs in ligamentum teres

Obturator nerve

· runs in notch with artery

· divides into anterior and posterior branches

· branches straddle adductor brevis
