·      at division of common peroneal nerve

·      passes downwards in muscle

·      emerges from its anterior border behind anterior intermuscular septum

·      pierces deep fascia halfway down leg

·      divides into medial and lateral branches

·      supplies skin on anterolateral leg and foot

·      supplies muscles of lateral compartment

Peroneus longus

Origin

·      upper 2/3 of peroneal surface of fibula

·      superior tibiofibular joint

Path

·      tendon lies behind that of PB

·      does not contact malleolus

·      passes below peroneal trochlea

Insertion

·      base of MT I (and medial cuneiform)

Peroneus brevis

Origin

·      lower 2/3 of peroneal surface fibula

·      in front of PL

Path

·      tendon lies in front of that of PL

·      lies behind and grooves lateral malleolus

·      passes above peroneal trochlea

Insertion

·      base of MT V
